Dear Members,
It is with pleasure that we are sending you weblinks for two members only tools intended to provide greater insight into Asian sustainable investment trends.
The first tool is a proprietary list of Asian stocks which has been compiled through a review of SRI funds holding Asian equities. This list will serve as the basis for a soon to be launched SRI Stocks Portal. In compiling the list, we hoped to uncover practical insights into how Asian and global fund managers are applying ESG criteria to Asian equities. In addition, we have sought to highlight the challenges that investors face in gaining easy access to corporate disclosure on ESG fundamentals. Consistent with other ASrIA research findings, the list underscores a strong bias in favor small- and mid-cap equities which appear to be positioned to benefit from ESG themes rather than large-cap companies which might be suitable for best-of-breed funds.

The second tool, summarizing the findings of our first ASrIA Stakeholders Forum, provides vital insights into the attitudes of Asian experts on sustainability issues. Sustainability trends at the Asian regional level are frequently elusive as country-level differences tend to dominate traditional polling efforts. As a result, we were fortunate to have a unique group of Asian experts gather for two days of closed door debate on issues, SRI investment themes, and future trends. The results should offer investors and policymakers food for thought about how global sustainability trends intersect with the interests of local Asian stakeholders. We were surprised by some of the conclusions and look forward to convening the group again in December for a second dialogue.
