ASrIA is delighted to announce that our Chair, Tessa Tennant, won the Third SAM/SPG Sustainability Leadership Award. She is the first woman to win the award which recognised her pioneering role in SRI and her work in Asia, particularly in the setting up of ASrIA.

SRI IN ASIA: NEW PERSPECTIVES WITH ASRIA'S LATEST REPORTS
'Foreign Versus Local: The Debate About SRI Priorities In Japan'

This report is an evaluation of the framework of SRI priorities in Japan and how this relates to western SRI priorities. It also offers insight into how national and international expectations can be met. Although this research focuses on Japan, there are lessons to be learned, and recommendations made, for SRI practitioners wherever they operate in the world. This research was made possible thanks to the generous support of the Calvert Group and Nikko Asset Management.

UBS GLOBAL ASSET MANAGEMENT(JAPAN) LTD LICENSES DOW JONES SUSTAINABILITY INDEXES FOR NEW FUND
The Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes have been licensed to ASrIA Member UBS Global Asset Management (Japan) Ltd for a new SRI Fund for the Japanese market. The product will be launched in cooperation with ASrIA Member Daiwa Securities.

ACCA'S HONG KONG AWARDS FOR SUSTAINABILITY REPORTING 2003
Following the success of its first Hong Kong Environmental Reporting Awards launched last year, ASrIA Member ACCA has extended the awards scheme to include sustainability reporting. INVESTORS ACTIVE ON CLIMATE CHANGE
For the second year running, institutional investors have come together to support the Carbon Disclosure Project. 87 Institutional Investors with total assets of USD9Trillion have written a joint letter to FT500 Global Companies asking for investment relevant information on Climate Change.

CALVERT WINS FIRST ROYAL AWARD FOR RESPONSIBLE INVESTMENT
ASrIA Member, Calvert, has been awarded the first Royal Award for Responsible Investment 2003. This award, jointly presented by the United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiatives and the Royal Awards for Sustainability, recognises outstanding examples of corporate activity in the field of sustainability and socially responsible investment.

HENDERSON WINS GLOBAL COMPETITION FOR SOCIALLY RESPONSIBLE PENSIONS FUND PROPOSALS
ASrIA Member Henderson Global Investors recently won an award for promoting long-term social responsibility in pension fund management. The competition was sponsored by the Universities Superannuation Scheme pension plan (the UK's third largest pension fund) and pensions consultancy Hewitt Bacon & Woodrow. HEWLETT PACKARD RELEASES 2003 GLOBAL CITIZENSHIP REPORT
ASrIA member, Hewlett Packard (HP) recently released its 2003 Global Citizen Report as part of the company's ongoing drive to promote greater transparency into their thinking and operations. This report, which describes HP's management systems, policies and practices employed to meet global citizenship objectives, provides a tool for stakeholders to understand HP's goals and monitor their progress.

UK BANKS UNDER THE SPOTLIGHT
The Ethical Investment Research Service (EIRIS) has published its second guide to responsible banking which looks at the performance of 13 leading UK high street banks on issues such as human rights, the environment, third world debt, lending policies and financial inclusion.
